Command and Conquer - CD Support Required
This is to install the classic Command and Conquer. It is possible to get the expansions to work after you have gotten this working.
C&C
- Insert you C&C CD in your CD-Rom (Either CD 1 or 2)
- Wait for Auto run to come up. (If you don't have auto run enabled continue to step 4)
- Close Auto run
- Right Click on the CD-Rom in 'My Computer' and select 'Open'
CD will be labeled either 'GDI95' or 'NOD95'
- Right Click on 'SETUP.EXE' and click 'Properties'
- Click on the 'Compatibility' tab at the top
- Under the 'Compatibility mode' tick 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:'
- Under the drop down menu make sure 'Windows 95' is selected then click 'Apply' then 'Ok'
- Run 'SETUP.EXE', the C&C installation wizard should now load
- Click 'Next'
- Untick 'DirectX audio and video drivers (Recommended)', Click 'Next'
- Click 'Next'
- Choose any installation directory you want, for the purpose of this guide i will use the default (C:\WESTWOOD\C&C95)
- Click 'Next'
- If a 'Confirm Creation of New Directory' comes up click 'Yes'
- Click 'Next'
- When you are prompted with 'Install Westwood Chat Program' just click 'Cancel
- A forced install of Adobe Acrobat Reader will then be launched
- As soon as the welcome screen comes up click 'Cancel' then 'No'
If you want to install you can but i offer no support for it so if you mess it up don't ask me how to fix it.
- Select 'I will restart my computer later' and click 'Finish'
- Download Windows XP Fix
Windows XP Fix can be downlaod from www.smasher9a.com/cnc-support/downloads/thipx32.dll
- If you cant or didn't save it into your installation directory move it there now
The file is called 'thipx32.dll'
- After it is in your installation director right click on 'C&C95.EXE' and click 'Properties'
- Click on the 'Compatibility' tab at the top
- Under the 'Compatibility mode' tick 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:'
- Under the drop down menu make sure 'Windows 95' is selected then click 'Apply' then 'Ok'
To Add a Desktop Shortcut
- Go into installation directory, default is C:\WESTWOOD\C&C95
- Right click on 'C&C95.EXE' and select 'Copy'
- Go to Desktop, right click and select 'Paste Shortcut'
- Right click on shortcut, select 'Rename' and type 'C&C'
Command and Conquer is now installed. To play simply put the either C&C CD n your CD-Rom drive and run the desktop shortcut.
